investigation
on the future spatial planning of the city of Dordrecht

Climate sustainability and nature development are the key words for
the future spatial development of the Dutch delta area. Within a policy,
based on spatial priority for water, the differences between urban-
and natural areas are getting extreme. On the one hand city cores
will be protected by means of dykes, leading to a concentration of
urban activity on restricted islands. On the other hand, large connected
areas will be formed where water and nature are getting the space
to manage high peaks of water discharge and the global rise the of
sea level.
The delta area will become part of a self-regulating ecological system
and the delta citizens will perceive the natural processes again in
a conscious way. |
